Traffic qualification (uniqueness, engagement, session integrity) relies on aggregated, hashed identifiers, not raw IP addresses stored in the clear.
4. Cookies & Local Storage
We use essential cookies for sign-in and security, and local storage for reading preferences. Only if you choose "Accept all" in the cookie notice do we also set a visitor_id cookie, which lets us recognise repeat reads of a story so they are not paid twice; without it your reads are still counted, anonymously. Our advertising partners set their own cookies only with that same consent. You can change your choice at any time from "Cookie settings" at the foot of every page.
